Fresh VUE: Theaster Gates & Huguenot House
Theaster Gates: 12 Ballads for Huguenot House
Pictured here, 12 Ballads for Huguenot House was created by Chicago-based artist and urban planner Theaster Gates. His project for documenta(13) unites two disused buildings—one in Chicago and the other in Kassel, Germany—by dismantling parts of each to reuse in rebuilding the other. The spatial re-imagining is realized in twelve thematic “ballads.”
Theaster speaks about his work at American University, Washington, DC, on November 6, 2012. His talk is the second annual lecture in the new Kinetic: Conversations in Contemporary Art lecture series at the University. Fresh Art International makes history that night by recording the inaugural Fresh Talk LIVE podcast.

Fresh VUE: The Netherlands 2012
September in the Netherlands meant a Fresh Art International residency at Open Ateliers, Zuidoost. A chance to meet resident creatives; record podcsts; view art; and witness the Stedelijk Museum, re-opened and renewed, after 8 long years!

Fresh VUE: Art Basel + Scope, June 2012
FAI contributor Kesha Bruce shares a glimpse of her encounter with Art Basel and Scope 2012 in Switzerland last week.
Art Basel- The mother of all international art fairs, Art Basel has something for everyone. I spent the bulk of my time in the second building which housed the smaller galleries. It was a pleasure to escape the intense crowds and noise of the main building which I can only be describe as a cross between the inside of an agitated beehive and the mall of America on Christmas Eve.
Liste 17 - Billed as the "young" art fair, Liste 17 definitely had edgier and more daring displays, but not many were successful. I soon became weary of room after room of indecipherable installations and inaccessible conceptual works. I do give the organizers extra credit for the quirky location and taking risks on smaller innovative galleries. And at the bar out front, you could buy sausages and cheap beer which ended up being the highlight of my visit.
SCOPE- My hands-down favorite! The location was perfect and each booth was beautifully curated. Strong adventurous work coupled with approachable art dealers and pricing that didn't send me reeling. What more can you ask for in an art fair?

Fresh VUE: Adaptive Actions

Based in Montreal and initiated in London in 2007 by Jean-François Prost, Adaptive Actions encourages and documents interventions that speak to the collective imagination in the workplace, the home and public spaces.

next book Heteropolis.

Heteropolis will include 30-50 contributions, 5 texts and an interview with political theorist Michael Hardt, co-author, with Toni Negri, of Empire, Multitude and Commonwealth. Published both in French and English, the book will be printed in 2012, in a limited edition. The book will be edited by Marie-Pier Boucher, Jean-Maxime Dufresne, Gema Melgar and Jean-François Prost.
